About Us

We are often asked how we arrived at the name, The Gatorbug and it is a story we love to share!  The matriarch of our family, Patricia coined the term of affection for her granddaughter, Sydney, when she was a small child; however, she was always at a loss to explain how she arrived at the name when asked!
In the early 2000’s, Patricia and her daughter, Dawn (that’s me) decided to start a small business selling women’s accessories and gift ware. Instead of a traditional brick and mortar, we sold our merchandise at Junior League shows and holiday convention gift shows.  Sydney was our ever faithful and hard working side-kick. We operated our traveling gift show for several years, but another Gatorbug, Catherine was born and the demands proved too much for her mom (that’s me) and we closed operations. The retail fire burned brightly in Sydney and she would go on to open a very successful online business selling monogrammed giftware. Of course, she named her business, The Gatorbug! Her online store closed when she was offered a job too attractive to refuse.
The littlest Gatorbug, Catherine was born with a love of fashion and ability to spot vintage Chanel design by the time she was 10. In late 2018, at the age of 24, she made the decision to open a brick and mortar specializing in women’s contemporary wear. As she worked to pull the store together, tragedy struck our family. Our beloved matriarch, Patricia passed away in January 2019. Catherine had been struggling to find the perfect name for her store, when Sydney, her cousin pointed out that there was really only one name to choose and that was The Gatorbug. We are certain that our beloved mom and “Gram” is smiling down on us.
We hope that you like our vision. Our goal is to provide women of all ages and sizes the most fashionable clothing in a wide range of price points. We are having a blast doing it and welcome your comments and questions.
Sincerely,
Catherine Carter
