About Us
We’re often asked where the name The Gatorbug came from and it’s one of our favorite stories to tell.
It all started with a nickname. Our grandmother, Patricia, lovingly called Sydney “Gatorbug” as a baby, a term of endearment, whose origin was just as mysterious as it was sweet. Little did we know, that nickname would one day become a brand rooted in family, fashion, and legacy.
In the early 2000s, Patricia and Catherine’s mom, Dawn, launched a small business selling handmade handbags, accessories, and gifts. They traveled to Junior League shows and holiday markets across the South, with Sydney by their side eager, inspired, and soaking in every moment. Eventually, life pulled them in new directions, but the spark had been lit.
Years later, Catherine and Sydney, cousins with a shared love of fashion and deep family roots, brought The Gatorbug back to life. In 2018, Catherine began building the boutique’s brick-and-mortar home, and after the passing of our beloved grandmother, we knew there was only one name that felt right.
Today, The Gatorbug is more than a boutique—it’s a reflection of our story. We thoughtfully curate every piece with a focus on blending quality and affordability, always on the hunt for styles that feel unique, wearable, and just a little unexpected. Whether you're shopping in-store or online, our goal is to make your experience feel personal, effortless, and inspiring.
We're so grateful you're here.
With love,
Catherine & Sydney
